Prof. Dr. Krautwald-Junghanns passed away!

Columbopathologists around the world received the news of the death of Prof. Ph.D., Maria-Elisabeth Krautwald-Junghanns with deep sadness and regret. The Professor was an active participant in our activities. She took part in the 1st IVPA World Congress in Krakow. She was the editor-in-chief of The Messenger. We say goodbye to an outstanding member, a veterinarian, a master in his field, a passionate specialist, our dear Friend.

The long-standing director of the Clinic for Birds and Reptiles at the University of Leipzig, Prof. Dr. Maria-Elisabeth Krautwald-Junghanns, died on August 26th at the age of 66. Since 1999, the bird and reptile expert has worked at the University of Leipzig as a multi-award-winning researcher and university lecturer. Her main scientific interest was imaging techniques in avian medicine, keeping of birds and antibiotics in avian medicine. She was working in avian medicine since 1984 (among others founding member of EAAV, ECAMS). She had also very prestigious titles: Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (former Avian Medicine and Surgery), past president ECAMS, residency director. She also had got various German spec. degrees for poultry, pet-zoo and wild birds and reptiles. She was author of 27 books or book chapters, more than 180 per-reviewed articles, more than 250 national and international contributions in congress proceedings. Professor was the author (co-author) of many important, fundamental works in the field of pigeon pathology.
